Welcome to the City of Northampton's Interactive Geographic Information System.

Searching for a Property (Street or Address)

You can find properties in the city by typing a street address or street name into the search box above. As you type search suggestions will provided for you.

You may select one of the suggestions, click the search icon or just click the return key to start your search.

If there is an exact match the map will zoom to display the matching parcel and the Parcel Details window will open to display information about the selected parcel.

If an exact match is not found the Search Results window will open to provide you with closest matches for your search.

Picking from List

To view a property that was returned from a search simply click the item in the list.

The map will zoom to the selected property and the details of that property will be displayed in the Parcel Details window. If the selected property is a condominium complex you will be prompted to select the desired unit.

Identifying Properties and Viewing Details

In addition to searching for a property you may interactively select one from the map. To do this simply click / tap the property on the map. The selected property will be highlighted on the map and the details of that property will be displayed in the Parcel Details window. If the selected property is a condominium complex you will be prompted to select the desired unit.

Panning and Zooming

The map can be easily navigated with your mouse or finger depending on the type of device you are viewing the site on.

  • If you are using a desktop computer with a mouse you can pan the map by holding down the left mouse button and dragging the map in any direction. To zoom in or out you can use the zoom buttons located in the bottom right of the map. You may also zoom in or out by using the scroll wheel if your mouse has one
  • If you are viewing the map on a mobile or touch screen device you can pan the map by dragging your finger across the map in any direction. To zoom in or out you can use the zoom buttons located in the bottom right of the map. You may also zoom in or out by using a pinching gesture with two fingers.

Printing Property Map

Once you have selected a property you may print a property map. To do this click the Property Map link on in Parcel Details window.


A print window will open providing a preview of the map that will be printed. You may adjust the scale of the map by zooming in or out and by typing the desired map scale in the scale box provided. You may also adjust the extent of the map by panning the preview window in any direction. Once you are happy with the preview click the print button at the bottom of the window.

The property map will be generated in PDF format. The map will open in a new browser window which may require disabling of your browser's pop-up blocker.

Changing Maps

There are a number of additional maps available for viewing. Maps can be changed by clicking on the Layers tab to the right and selecting the desired map from the list provided.


Adding Additional Data

In addition to changing maps a large number of additional data layers have been provided for your use. To add this data to your map click the Layers tab to the right. The Additional Data tab is located below the Maps section. Click the Additional Data tab to open it.
The gray background indicates the layer is currently turned on. Layers can be toggled on and off by clicking the layer name in the list. Bold layer names indicate the data is viewable at the current map scale. Non-bold layer names indicate that the map must be zoomed in or out for this data to be viewable.

Showing Legend

To see what colors or shapes on the map indicate, a map legend is available. The legend will show all the layers currently visible in the map. To view the legend click the Legend icon on the bottom toolbar

If you are viewing the map on a mobile device the bottom toolbar can be opened by clicking the Tools icon on the bottom left corner of the map.

Measuring

A measure tool has been provided to allow for approximate measurements of both length and area. To use the measure tool click the Measure icon on the bottom toolbar.

The measure window will open.
The measure window has options for measuring both length and area as well as options for units. To start measuring select either the length tool or area tool. Click on the map where you want to start measuring and click again where you want to end your measurement. You can continue add measurement points by clicking at additional locations. The measure Window will update the length or area measurements at you click. To stop measuring double click the map.

Printing a Screen Map

Printing of the map can be accomplished by clicking the Print icon on the lower toolbar

A print window will open providing a preview of the map that will be printed. Select the size and orientation you prefer from the dropdown. You may adjust the scale of the map by zooming in or out and by typing the desired map scale in the scale box provided. You may also adjust the extent of the map by panning the preview window in any direction. You may add a custom title to the map by typing it in the box provided.

Once you are happy with the preview click the print button at the bottom of the window.

The print will be generated in PDF format. The map will open in a new browser window which may require disabling of your browser's pop-up blocker.

Emailing a Link to Map

The map that is currently being viewed can be shared. To share the map click the Email Link icon on the bottom toolbar.

The email link window will open with the link needed to access the current map. Copy the link from the window and paste it into an email or text message.

The URL will contain information on the selected map, any additional layers added and the current map extent. If a property has been selected it's selection will also be included in the link.

This website provides access to city maps and geographically referenced property information.
